CLAIRE AQuA: AI for citizens
On 28 August, the CLAIRE (Confederation of Laboratories for Artificial Intelligence Research in Europe) All Questions Answered (AQuA) series continued, with a one-hour session focussing on AI for citizens. This session was held in conjunction with the European Networks of Excellence and ICT-48 project VISION. This webinar examined the concrete examples of applications and actions that the European Networks of Excellence have developed over the past four years, with a special focus on benefits brought to citizens and the general public. The panellists also discussed the considerations that researchers had to take into account in their work while respecting the general principles of trustworthy AI.
TRINITY, the European network for Agile Manufacturing
The fast-changing customer demands in modern society seek flexibility, innovation and a rapid response from manufacturers and organisations that, in order to respond to market needs, are creating tools and processes in order to adopt an approach that welcomes change. That approach is found to be Agile Manufacturing – and the Trinity project is the magnet that connects every segment of agile with everyone involved, creating a network that supports people, organisations, production and processes. The main objective of TRINITY is to create a network of multidisciplinary and synergistic local digital innovation hubs (DIHs) composed of research centres, companies, and university groups that cover a wide range of topics that can contribute to agile production: advanced robotics as the driving force and digital tools, data privacy and cyber security technologies to support the introduction of advanced robotic systems in the production processes. The Trinity project is funded by Horizon 2020 the European Union research and innovation programme. Currently, Trinity brings together a network of 16 Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs) and so far has 37 funded projects with 8.1 million euros in funding.
European Vision for AI 2021 – an event for all
The European Vision for AI event, held on 22 April 2021, provided an opportunity for the public to hear from members of the European artificial intelligence (AI) community and representatives from the European Commission and parliament. The morning-long session was organised by the VISION project partners in cooperation with four networks of AI centres of excellence (AI4Media, ELISE, TAILOR, Humane-AI-Net). These networks were launched within the European Union's Horizon 2020 Programme in September 2020 and are bringing together scientists across Europe. This event followed hot on the heels of the announcement from the European Commission regarding proposed new rules and actions for artificial intelligence. During the morning, the speakers provided some context and details around this and there was plenty of interesting discussion on potential paths forward for AI in Europe.
